Farmlands COVID-19 Update - 16th March 2020

With the World Health Organisation having declared COVID-19 as a global pandemic, your co-operative is actively taking steps to make sure our stores, sites and offices remain a safe place to work and visit. As owners of our business and visitors to our stores, it is important to keep you informed of the steps we are taking to protect you.

While New Zealand has only a handful of cases so far, Farmlands is preparing for ‘when’ rather than ‘if’. We have responsibilities to our local communities to provide services and supplies to help keep this country moving. Here is some of the steps we have taken so far.

We are making sure we have the right product, at the right place, at the right time.
Ensuring our supply chain remains open is important, which is why we are reaching out to all of our suppliers to make sure we continue to have supplies available to you. If required, we will look at alternatives to provide you with the supplies you need.

We are upping our game on store cleaning.
Like other retail businesses around New Zealand, we need to manage our stores in a way that protects both our staff and our customers. We have introduced new store hygiene standards to reflect the need to clean surfaces more regularly.
We have new on-farm protocols. To keep you safe, we have refined our farm and delivery protocols. There will not be less social interaction – but there will be less physical interaction. Please do not be offended if you find us standing a step or two further away.

We are listening to the experts.
To make sure Farmlands is following correct protocols, we are taking best practice guidance from the Ministry of Health guidelines. I encourage you to view their advice for yourself on their website.

Farmlands will be hosting less events.
Gatherings are being cancelled around the country and we regrettably are limiting our presence at events. This means Farmlands will no longer be on-site at:

  • Central Districts Field Days
  • The I AM HOPE Tractor Trek
  • AgFest

The health and wellbeing of shareholders and staff is important to us, which means some tough calls on attending significant events on the calendar. At this stage we are postponing or cancelling all involvement in events until the end of April. We will be reviewing upcoming events beyond that and will let you know in advance if we are postponing or cancelling our involvement. To check the status of events in your area, please click here.  

Farmlands also has business continuity plans in the events of emergencies and disruptions. If your local store or area is affected by a disruption, we will communicate with you directly.

We are committed to taking well measured and practical steps to keep you and our people safe in our stores, at our sites or when we visit. COVID-19 is a significant global event and Farmlands wants to reassure all shareholders we are doing everything in our power to prepare, plan and protect.
