Celebrating Generations On The Land

The New Zealand Century Farms Awards, of which Farmlands is the foundation sponsor, recognises farming achievements. The aim of the awards programme is to capture and preserve rural history which might otherwise be lost. In submitting narratives of family farming history, copies of related photographs and documents, the award recipients are presented with a distinctive bronze plaque to display at their farm gate.

The awards began after an impassioned group from Lawrence, South Otago, decided to ensure New Zealand’s farming history was not lost. It set up the inaugural New Zealand Century Farms Awards more than ten years ago – since then many families have joined this exclusive circle of centenarians and sesquicentenarians.

The collected materials are archived at the Alexander Turnbull National Library in Wellington – making sure the historical information will be available for future generations.

2016 applications are now open

New Zealand farming families who have owned and worked their land for 100 years or more are encouraged to apply for a Century Farm and Station Award, or a Sesquicentennial Farm and Station Award.
