Capacity is key for customer-centric Bay business

RPL Services Limited (RPL) is one of the longest privately-owned transport and earthmoving businesses in the Western Bay of Plenty region. With over 60 years industry experience, this Tauranga based, family business has grown to employ over 40 staff based in Tauranga.

In addition to the earthworks and transporting side of the organisation, RPL Services Ltd operates two separate business divisions:

  • Oropi Quarries – Operating directly from the quarry base; blasting, screening and extracting various metal aggregates to meet the demand of local contracting businesses.
  • AAA Driveways, formally The Pothole Man, specialises in asphalting and chip-sealing driveways and carparks, as well as repairs and maintenance for customers in the Bay.

Director, Tony Renner attributes much of the company’s growth to the employment of good-quality staff that go the extra mile to make their clients happy. “Our business is often from repeat customers and referrals, so it’s important to get the job done right the first time,” he says.

With continued growth, RPL has recently relocated to a new yard. Farmlands Area Manager, Nigel McFadyen recently visited Tony there to discuss the logistics of a 30,000 litre fuel tank that is now permanently based at their property. They discussed key features of the tank, such as:

  • • Capacity – Meaning RPL should never run out of fuel
    • Bigger Nozzle – Providing a flow that is 5 x faster than old tanks
    • Electronic Fuel Management System – Giving automatic visibility of fuel use
    • Secure Access – Fuel can only be reached via an RFID key tag for staff.

On the benefits of the new fuel management system, Tony says,

“The information provided allows us to monitor fuel usage by vehicle, which in turn allows us to manage our monthly fuel reconciliations better and to access this insight daily. This new fuel system allows the admin team to work smarter, not harder, so this tank has superseded our expectations.”n
