Farmlands investment in AgriZeroNZ

AgriZeroNZ is a partnership between major agribusinesses, banks and Government. Roughly 80 percent of both the dairy and red meat sectors are involved. It was set up to accelerate the development of tools to help New Zealand farmers further reduce emissions without compromising productivity or profitability.

Farmlands has invested in AgriZeroNZ. Here’s what we are doing and why.

Our investment

Farmlands is contributing $1 million over three years (around $335k a year).

Why we have joined

Our purpose is to improve productivity and profitability for New Zealand farmers and growers: supplying what they need today and investing in what they may need tomorrow.

Our investment will help secure access to a wider range of products for our customers in the future. Farmlands recent acquisitions of Donaghys and SealesWinslow have already strengthened access to local animal health and nutrition manufacturing. This helps keep knowledge and supply here in New Zealand, close to the farmers who rely on it. Our AgriZeroNZ announcement supports our investment in Donaghys and Seales Winslow by giving us access to new technology and product development. This doesn't mean our customers have to purchase these products, it simply broadens the choices available.

Being part of AgriZeroNZ gives us an earlier view of what is coming, a chance to ask whether it will work on NZ farms and make sense of cost and fit. When good solutions are ready, our manufacturing, our people and our network can help get them into your hands.

How the decision was made

The Farmlands Board made this investment decision through our established governance processes, as it does for other investments we make.

Chair Rob Hewett also chairs AgriZeroNZ. He declared this, and our conflict-of-interest processes were followed. He stepped out of the investment discussions and the Board vote, and the remaining directors made the decision unanimously.

If you have questions, please speak with your usual Farmlands contact or get in touch with our customer team, we’re always keen to hear from you.
